'mazin Hamsters

I've put all the three mazes together that i've made over the last couple of weeks. I am planning to make my final piece today out of mount board as wood would have been too heavy for a product. I am going to make it decorative as well so that it is appealing to the age group I want to aim the product at. (ages 8-12)

ON TO THE FINAL MAZE. i'm scared.

Some Good News

I applied for a researching project called Broad Vision within my uni and actually got chosen to do it! I am so pleased that I have this opportunity to show how serious about illustration I am.

I will be having a meeting on thursday about planning for the project which will also involve some activities and researching.

Work for the week

For my reinventing Illustration project, i've been going Maze crazy, I've decided to call my product 'mazing Hamsters. I've taken a lot of films and made 3 different mazes.

This is a simpler maze I made from the last one as I found it was too difficult for Bovril to do. The height is my main issue because she climbs over the walls instead of going around the maze. I've done a few experiments with drawing a line to the exit and have found it the most interesting result.

This is an example of a hamster maze fail. There's a lot of these videos, but I don't believe she is stupid, I believe she is more intelligent than most people give hamsters credit for.

Following a line and climbing over the walls.

Now, onto making the final piece.

Reinventing Illustration - Hamster Maze

For this project I thought i'd do something a little different to drawing, so I am currently making mazes for my Hamster, Bovril. The purpose of this is to illustrate the theories of phsycologists testing mice and rats, and see if Bovril is more intellectual than other rodents.

The reason I wanted to do something different is because, believe it or not, as an illustration student, i'm so sick of drawing.

In the above video it shows Bovril finding the food that I put in the centre of the maze and then she went back to the start and climbed out.

This video shows Bovril in the larger maze that I made. I tried a different experiment with her and drew a red line to the exit of the maze. She followed the line all the way but unfortunately missed the last turn towards the exit. I don't know whether it was a fluke or not but I thought following a colour for a hamster was pretty impressive.

More videos to come!
